Fall senior portraits are around the corner!

As summer winds down and back to school is going to be here before we know it, I couldn’t help but share about one of my favorite (and busiest!) seasons as a Chicago senior photographer – FALL!

I’m a midwesterner at heart, so you better bet that I have a soft spot for the fall season! Which totally makes me love fall senior portraits and all that comes with them. The cool breeze, gorgeous colors, and falling leaves paired with really cool Chicago seniors… What more could you want?!

Want to know why fall senior portraits are so popular? Here are three reasons why:

1) The Weather

It’s not too hot and not too cold, so it’s the Goldie Locks approved season for senior pictures. You won’t have to worry about sweating from the heat or a red nose from the cold… It’s just right! When it comes to planning fall photos, you should know that I book fall sessions throughout October and wrap up outdoor shooting for the year in early November. By the time mid to late November hits, we’re dealing with colder weather, daylight savings (I’m not ready for 4 pm sunsets anytime soon!), and the start of the holiday hustle and bustle. That’s why I only schedule fall sessions in October and into the first week or two of November. Trust me, it’s the sweet spot for the best weather!

If boots, scarves, layers, textures, and hats are your jam, a fall senior session is the perfect option for you! Layers and textures always make an outfit super dynamic, and the season for a perfectly layered wardrobe is definitely the fall. I love how the layers and textures of fall outfits add dimension, variety, and versatility to fall senior portraits! One outfit can be photographed in multiple ways, and we love fun and variety around here!

3) The Fall Colors

Close your eyes and imagine your pictures taken with warm tones and falling leaves. In love with the idea of how it looks? Fall is the perfect session season for you! When planning your fall senior portraits in Chicago, keep in mind that fall colors are not here until October. So, don’t fool yourself into thinking that scheduling senior photos in September will be “fall photos”… I hate to break it to ya, but fall isn’t here in Chicago until October!

PRO TIP: Mid to late October is usually when we see the fall colors at their peak.

let's tell your story

I've photographed every personality type — the shy ones, the hams, the "I hate photos" crowd, all of them.

I know how to find what makes someone tick and pull it right into the frame. The goal is never a perfect pose.

It's a photo that looks so undeniably like you that you can't stop staring at it.
