Hi, I’m Shalimar – a high school senior photographer in Chicago. Yep, actually IN Chicago. I live in Chicago and call Chicago home! So, I believe living in the city and having city kids gives me some insider information. I know tons of amazing photo locations, and I’m ALWAYS on the lookout for others!
You better bet that I think it’s great when seniors want to use the amazing city of Chicago as a backdrop for photos. Why wouldn’t you? It’s gorgeous! But I always keep in mind that the real beauty of the photo is YOU!!
When it comes to choosing your senior portrait locations, one of my favorite things about senior photo sessions is brainstorming with seniors about where we’re going to take their photos. Are we taking photos downtown, in the West Loop, in front of one of the hundreds of murals throughout our city, along the River Walk or Lake Michigan, or maybe even at the studio? It’s truly a collaboration!
Now, we all know that Chicago is a gorgeous city with some of the most amazing city views with some of the most Instagrammable spots in the world, and it would be super easy for me to suggest any one of these spots for senior photos… But, to me, senior photos should be much more personal and customized than that. Especially if the senior has grown up in the city and has ideas about where they want to have photos taken. Also, I kind of doubt they’re going to want photos at the nearest tourist trap.
This is why I work with each senior to come up with 2-3 locations that are meaningful and represent their high school years in some way. A favorite hang out spot, place you walk the dog, street you and your friends meet up on… The options are endless!
It’s the truth when I say that we aren’t just taking pretty pictures here at SBP. We are documenting a major life transition! Thrilled to play a part in your high school journey!!
