You just worry about rocking your senior year and show up as yourself.

I’ve got the rest.

One thing we both know is that you don’t need another senior to-do to stress about.

Essays, exams, events, and on and on. If you’re going to have a photo shoot, it better be fun. My job is to make sure you never want the day to end and end up with photos that you can’t quit sharing.

How does it all happen?

Thought you’d never ask. Here’s what you can expect: Your senior portrait session is all about YOU! As it should be! Each senior photo session that I do is a collaboration with that senior – we create the session plan together. I want to hear your ideas, what you love about this city and where you like to go. Let’s build your session around that! Need suggestions from me? I’m happy to provide them – I’ve got tons of cool locations we can go, and I’m always adding more to my list.

If you choose to have your hair/makeup done (it’s included in the session fee!) we’ll start the day at my studio in North Center and go from there. I love that end of day light, so graduation portrait sessions typically start a few hours before the sun sets. The time will vary as the sunset time changes.

Senior photo sessions last about 3 hours, during that time we will laugh and have so much fun – it will be a day you remember forever. Your gorgeous photos will be your souvenir.

Hey parents, I'm talking to you here.

Because, I see you, too.

Man oh man, it’s been a journey getting to this moment that once felt eons away. Wasn’t it just yesterday you were holding hands walking into preschool? Now you’re looking into those same bright eyes in awe of how much they’ve grown. They make that face and in an instant you go back in time. Only to blink, and shake your head with wonder.

“Where in the world has my baby gone?”

You’ve had a front row seat to all the phases that got them here and made them, well, them. There have been so many ups and downs and turnarounds. But here you are, staring at this very cool human you’re lucky to call your kid.

Been there. I get you. So you better believe I make this portrait experience as much of a celebration for you as it is for them.

My daughter and I enjoyed her senior session so much! I saw all of her nervousness melt away as the day went on and she was in such high spirits afterward - she LOVED the experience so so much. A great day all around and an unexpected confidence booster to boot! We will treasure all the beautiful image for a lifetime. THANK YOU!

What To Know About Working With Shalimar B Photography

I pride myself on my customer service. The number of clients I’ve had return to work with me through the years is additional testament to my dedication, so let’s talk about working together! Here you can learn all about your first session with me.

First: A Phone Call

It all starts with a phone call. We’ll chat about what you want for your senior photo session (and what you DON’T want!) It’s kind of like a vibe check that leads to so many possibilities. If we’re a match, we can schedule a date at this time. After the date is set and the session fee is paid, I will start sending you prep guides to help you get ready for your portrait session. While these guides will help with what to wear, how to prepare your skin, hair and nails – I am also always available to answer any questions. You will also receive a questionnaire to complete – this helps to suggest locations for your photo session and helps me get to know you a little bit before we meet. Approximately two weeks before your senior session, we’ll have a style consult (over zoom) where we will go over your planned outfits for the day and I can answer any questions you may have. It’s also a great opportunity for us to meet before the actual session day!

Senior Session Fee: $350

Important note about session fee: The fee includes the time and talent of the photographer, 2-3 locations for shooting and unlimited outfit changes for the senior. It also includes professional hair and makeup! It does not include any prints, images or products. The session fee is due at the time of booking in order to reserve a session date.

Important note about cancellations: If your senior becomes sick, please call me as soon as possible to reschedule the session. For all other cancellations or reschedule requests, please provide 48 hours notice. Otherwise, the session fee is non-refundable.

Frequently asked questions

So many options! Of course I’m happy to make suggestions but I want to know if there are any spots in the city that are meaningful to you? A spot you and your friends frequented? That you want to remember forever? This is an area we will brainstorm! Full senior sessions include up to 3 locations.

This is another area where there will be much more information headed your way, but to start, this is the time to pull out all the stops!! Most seniors bring about 3-5 outfits for their sessions. Full senior sessions include unlimited outfit changes. Outfits range from really dressy (think prom dresses!) to super casual (like skateboarding attire.) It all depends on your style. The #1 rule is to stay true to your personal style. Always.

A full senior session will last approximately 3-4 hours (starting with and including hair/make up application.) I like to continue to shoot until the sun sets

I understand. Many seniors that come to me haven’t ever had their hair/makeup professional done and may be concerned about not looking like themselves, or too much makeup being applied. I can assure you that I work with the BEST artists in Chicago and they are trained to apply makeup specifically for the camera. Also, they will work closely with you to make sure you are happy with the result. (And fix it if you aren’t.) Additionally, I always recommend that seniors bring in hair/makeup looks to show the artist – this is always helpful. (I also go over this in my prep guide!)

I’d say that 99.9% of the people that come to me say that they feel awkward in front of the camera, before we start. But I will help you with posing, I will show you what to do, and how to do it. I will tell you what to do with your hands – which is always the most awkward part!!! Once we get going, you won’t feel awkward, you’ll feel (and look) like a pro!!! I’ve got you!!

Approximately two weeks after your session you will be invited to the studio to view and order your images. (I can’t wait for you to see them!)

I place a high value on customer service, and my goal is to make things as easy and seamless for you as possible. For that reason, I will help you through the ordering process. You will order your photos at an in-person ordering session approximately two weeks after your senior photo session. Clients find this ordering session to be fun and easy!

Prints and products are ready four to six weeks after your order has been placed.
