So you’ve decided that it’s time to update your current headshot – either on your website or social media profiles. Good for you! We are living in a digital world, a world where everyone is scrolling, scrolling, scrolling. By updating your photos, or changing them every so often, you can stop the scroll and entice browsers to stop and click on your profile to learn more. So how can you best prepare for your session? Here are a few easy things to do to make sure you are putting your best face forward:

  1. 2 weeks before your photo session – have your hair cut or colored. This is not the time to make a dramatic change but 2 weeks will give your hair time to get to that sweet spot.
  2. 1 week before your session – if this is part of your regular routine, get your lip/brows waxed. Be sure to give a handful of days before your session so your skin has time to heal. Get your nails done – often your hands will be included in your photo so you want your nails to look great! Start gathering items you will wear for your session. This is the number one question I get about sessions – “what should I wear?!” My general guidelines are to choose clothes that you love and make you feel beautiful. Don’t be afraid of color, but avoid clothes with small patterns or writing. Bring a variety of clothes to your session and think about your industry standards. Is it formal or more casual?
  3. Day of your session! The day is here! If you are not having your hair and makeup done for you then I suggest keeping makeup understated and professional. Most importantly, have fun at your session and let your photographer guide you into natural looking poses.
