Ah, Chicago. You’ve gotta love it – except maybe when you’re trying to plan around the weather!
As a Chicago senior photographer, I know firsthand just how unpredictable our weather can be. One minute it’s sunny and 78°, the next it’s windy, rainy, or suddenly 50° again. You know what they say… Don’t like the weather in Chicago? Just wait an hour.
This feels especially true in the spring, doesn’t it? It makes it hard enough to plan your outfit for the day, let alone schedule a senior photo session months in advance. So what happens if the weather isn’t cooperating on the day of your session? Let’s talk about it.
I’m Basically a Meteorologist Now
Okay, not really… But I am watching the forecast all. the. time. Like, obsessively. It’s just part of the job! I want you to have the best possible experience (and light!), so I’m always keeping an eye on what Mother Nature might throw our way.
If things look questionable, I’ll be in touch with you. I typically make the final weather call the day of your session – because in Chicago, things can shift fast. My goal is always to avoid last-minute stress and make the best plan possible, whether that’s moving forward, rescheduling, or heading into the studio.
Enter: The Studio Backup Plan
Here’s the good news… I’ve got a gorgeous indoor studio space that gives us the perfect backup option! Whether it’s rain, storms, heat, humidity, or wild wind, the studio means we never have to cancel your session just because of the weather. We can still capture beautiful, professional portraits without worrying about what’s happening outside. Honestly? Some of my favorite photos have been taken in the studio – it lets us slow down, get creative, and focus on you.

If outdoor photos are really important to you, no worries – I totally get it. I always build flexibility into my calendar to allow for reschedules when needed. While it’s not ideal, I promise the wait will be worth it. Your session should feel fun and relaxed, not like we’re dodging raindrops or shivering through outfit changes.
The most important thing to know is this: Your experience and your Chicago senior photos are my top priority, and I will always have a plan to make it work.

Let me let you in on a little secret… The best time to schedule your senior session is the summer before senior year.
Why? Because spring in Chicago is a wild card. I’ve seen it snow in May – MAY! Do you really want to roll the dice on that? On top of that, spring of your senior year is already packed: prom, sports, banquets, senior nights… It’s a lot. By scheduling your session in the summer or early fall, you’re giving yourself more flexibility, better weather, and time to enjoy the process without the pressure of a packed calendar.
In short? If the weather doesn’t cooperate, I’ve got you. Whether we move to the studio or reschedule, your session will still be full of personality, style, and photos you’ll love forever. And hey – keep your fingers crossed for sunshine!
