Happy New Year from Shalimar B. Photography! With the new year here, that means spring is around the corner… Which means spring activities, sports, banquets, awards ceremonies, and the biggest of all – graduation – are on the horizon.
Too often, families do not think about senior photos until it feels almost too late. School schedules fill up, sports and activities pile on, and suddenly graduation is right around the corner. When families do reach out at the last minute, the most common regret I hear is simple: They wish they had started planning sooner.

Your Chicago senior photos are not something you want to squeeze in between everything else, trust me! They deserve time, intention, and space on the calendar. Planning ahead allows you to choose the season you love, the locations that feel right, and a photographer whose style truly fits your senior.
Pro Tip: Planning early gives you flexibility and peace of mind!
Summer and fall are, without a doubt, the most popular times of year for senior photos in Chicago. The longer days, warmer weather, and wide-open availability make those seasons ideal. That’s why you see so many seniors planning their sessions before senior year even begins or early in the fall!

Spring sessions are a little different, and that’s part of what makes them special! Spring is often the final opportunity for seniors who did not take photos the previous summer or fall but still want to document this milestone before graduation. There is something incredibly meaningful about capturing seniors during that last stretch of high school… When everything feels real and exciting and full of anticipation. The city starts to wake up, the light softens, and the season itself mirrors the transition they are about to make.
Spring photos may not be the first choice for everyone, but for the seniors who choose them, they are filled with intention, celebration, and a sense of completion that feels really unique.
Because spring dates are limited, I open my calendar early and offer first access to my email list. This gives families a chance to plan before dates fill up and before schedules get overwhelming. Being on the list means you are not scrambling for availability or settling for a date that just doesn’t work.

For Class of 2026 families, limited spring senior session dates will be launching soon. If you are hoping to book a session before graduation, being on the list is the best way to ensure you do not miss out!
And for families with a Class of 2027 student, it is never too early to start thinking ahead. The best time to book senior photos is often the spring or early summer before senior year. Less school stress, beautiful light, and the widest range of date options.
If Chicago senior photos are on your radar at any point in the next year, I encourage you to get on my launch list. I promise helpful updates, no spam, and early access to booking. Future you will be so glad you did!
