First of all, if you’re a senior, HUGE CONGRATS! This is such an amazing time in your life! Because you’re about to close one chapter and begin the next, NOW is the perfect time to document your life with a professional portrait session! A session with a professional photographer is worth the investment. However, you want to make sure you choose a photographer that meets your needs.
So what should you look for in a photographer?
- HIGH QUALITY IMAGES: Professional photographers invest in top level equipment, producing high quality images. As a result, these images can be printed in large format products (like canvases and wall prints) and stand the test of time. A mobile phone or even some entry level cameras just won’t cut it.
- THE EDIT: Consider the editing of the images. Notice the skin tone … do the seniors in the galleries have pores, freckles and natural skin tones? How about the lighting? Is the subject in the image bright and colorful? Are there strange filters on the images that discolor the skin tones? These aspects are important to observe because what you see in their portfolio will most likely be how your very own senior photos will appear.
- THE EXPERIENCE: Some photographers offer an entire experience. Including hair and makeup, several outfit changes and collaborate on locations with the senior. Others offer a quick session where the photographer chooses one location and that’s it. It’s best to ask questions about the photographer’s process to determine what will best suit your needs.
