You know what makes a Chicago senior photo session feel amazing from start to finish? When we already feel like friends before I even pick up my camera.
Getting to know you ahead of time is such an important part of the experience – it helps me understand exactly what you want from your photos, it gives me a glimpse into your personality, and it makes you feel more comfortable when we’re together on session day. (Because let’s be real, nobody loves having a camera in their face unless they feel at ease first!)
Here are three things I always do to connect with my seniors before their photos:
1) A pre-booking phone call
This is usually the first step! Sometimes it’s with the senior, and sometimes it’s with a parent – either way works for me. It gives us a chance to chat about the vision for your session, ask any questions, and get the planning process started in a relaxed and personal way.
2) A custom questionnaire
Once you’re booked, I’ll send you a fun questionnaire – it’s all about YOU. Your style, your favorite spots in the city, what you’re hoping for from your photos… And yes, even your favorite snacks (because you know I’m going to have them ready on session day!). This is one of my favorite tools for tailoring the session to fit your vibe.
3) A pre-session consult
This one might be the most important – we meet face to face! This pre-session consult is where we go over your outfits, finalize locations, talk through all the details, and make sure you’re feeling totally prepped. More than anything, it’s a chance for you to see that I’m just a goofy, down-to-earth person who’s definitely in your corner. It’s where we go from “Chicago senior photographer” to “friend with a camera!”
Taking time to connect before your photos means that when your session day arrives, it feels more like a fun adventure with someone you already know, not a stressful photo shoot. That connection? It shows in every single image.
