Over the years as a Chicago senior portrait photographer, I’ve come to know that successful, fun senior sessions are all about one thing – planning ahead!
As part of my senior session prep, I love offering style consults. What is that? Well, 1-2 weeks before your session we will either meet in person at my Chicago studio or via Zoom where we’ll go over all of your session outfits and locations. This makes a big difference in the planning and prep for your senior portrait experience! It allows me to address any questions that you may think of and also see what you are bringing for your outfits. From there, I can offer suggestions, ideas, and inspiration that you might be looking for to bring all the details together!
I love this part of the senior photo experience! Getting to know you and getting to see what you’re going to wear for photos is so much fun. This is a time to collaborate and feel even more excited about your upcoming senior photos in Chicago!
On that note, here are three outfit tips when planning your senior photo outfits:
1. Layer, layer, layer!
We love layers here at SBP! Layers add interest to your outfits and depth to your photos. Consider incorporating a jacket, scarf, or even a vest into your outfits. Not only do layers offer a chance to create different looks without completely changing outfits, but they also add texture to your photos. For instance, a denim jacket over a cozy sweater can give a relaxed, stylish vibe, while a blazer over a shirt adds a polished touch. Don’t be afraid to layer!!
2. Coordinate, don’t match!
When choosing outfits for your senior photos, think about coordinating colors and styles rather than matching exactly. Try to shake things up a bit between your outfits, lean into your personality, and hey, I love a good trend!
3. Don’t be afraid to accessorize!
Think jewelry, hats, and belts! Accessories can elevate your outfit and add personality while also keeping things balanced. Choose accessories that enhance your look without overwhelming it. Simple jewelry, a stylish hat, or a statement belt can add personality without being distracting. Remember, the focus should be on you for your senior pics! I recommend trying to select accessories that complement your outfit and personal style without stealing your spotlight.
