i’d wager that if you ask the average 2-6 year old girl who the most beautiful woman in the world is, after they answer (insert current Disney princess name here) their reply would be their own mother.  i talk to many, many little girls over the course of a year so i think i may have an inside scoop. as little girls our moms are our first role models and they give us the first glimpse of what it means to be a woman.  i remember watching my mom getting ready for fancy nights out, they probably weren’t even fancy.  she was probably going bowling, or to a tupperware party, but she always looked fancy to me.  i’d watch her brush her unbelievably long beautiful hair. put on her makeup.  sometimes i’d “help” her pick out her jewelry. once, i asked if i could have her jewelry when she was dead.  yes, i really said that.  (sorry, again, mom.) she’d dab on her perfume.  it would either be Estee Lauder’s Youth Dew or Guerlain’s Shalimar (hmmmmmm?)

i’d also wager that as those little girls move into womanhood themselves they would still answer that their moms are the most beautiful woman in the world.  but maybe this time the answer would have more meaning than just the outward appearance. as we grow older we see all of the sacrifices that our mothers have made for us and all of the times she has put others first and herself last.

this is definitely true for me.  i was finally able to have my mom come to my studio to take some photos of her.  and while anyone with eyes that are functioning can see that she is gorgeous on the outside, she is also a knockout on the inside.  let me tell you a little bit about that . . .  this woman is truly always thinking of others first.  whether it’s a family member, a friend or someone she’s just met! she will go out of her way to make someone feel special.  she is also one of those people that is always willing to help – in any way she can.  and not in an “ugh, ok, i’ll help you (exasperated voice)” kind of way, but a friendly, what needs to get done, lets do it, kind of way.  i know this from the obvious first hand experience, but also from seeing her help countless others this way. and i mean countless.  my entire life.

i could go on and on.  but the point is that i think my mother is the most beautiful woman in the world.  both inside and out. i always have and i always will.  and you may think your mother is too.  i hope so.

i will cherish these photos of her until the end of my days.
