Mommy and me – Chicago Family Photographer

Sessions when mom gets in the photos are my favorite types of sessions! True story.

Isn’t mom always the one who is the family historian? Always taking photos of everyone else, but not getting in the photo herself? I’m guilty of this too – once my son and I were flipping through family vacation photos from when he was very little. He turned to me and asked, “Mom, were you on this vacation?” Wow!! That was an eye opener. I tell moms who are a little reluctant to get in the photos that these images aren’t necessarily for her – they are for her kids! Kids love to see themselves in photos but they also love to see themselves with their parents in photos. Even as an adult – I cherish the few photos I have of myself with my parents when I was little.

So to the moms who jump in those photos vs. always being the one to take them I say “Bravo!” And to the moms who need a little encouragement I say, “Go for it!” Your kids will thank you and who knows, you might enjoy being on the other side of the camera!

Post in comments your favorite photo of yourself with your kids – I’d love to see them!

And if you’d like your own family photography session (moms included!!) then give me a shout!

Hold the Cheese! – Chicago Kid Photographer

I’ve been going thru photos as I prepare for a website re-vamp. I came across this little sweetie and the non-smiling image really caught my eye. Kids don’t always want to smile for photos – and that is OK! Personally, sometimes I like the non-smiling photos better and I’ll take non-smiling over fake smile any day of the week! Another reason why I will never ask a child to say “cheese!” What I will do is some pretty silly things to elicit a real smile from a kid or an entire family. And I will love every minute of it!

Time Marching On – Chicago Child Photographer

Year after year I have clients that come back to me, which is not only such a compliment but also such a joy because I get to see them again and see how they’ve grown and changed over the year. This is one of those clients – you may recognize his sweet little face. I love seeing it every year and seeing what new funny thing he’s doing and saying. He never disappoints!!

Goodbye Chicago! – Chicago Family Photographer

I loved everything about this session except for the fact that this awesome family was saying goodbye to Chicago! We had so much fun at their session and our city gave us such a great day (although it did live it up to it’s name – Windy! and yes, I know, I know, Chicago is not called the Windy City because of the actual wind!)

This family is onto their next adventure in another great American city, but I’m so happy that they will have the photos of their beautiful, happy family in Chicago to take with them and hang on their walls!

**Now is the time to book your fall session – we still have one weekend date in September available and a few left in October! Call or email us at 773.230.5441 or

City or suburbs? – Chicago family photographer

I love seeing clients that have been coming back to me year after year, kid after kid, new town after new town. When clients move from the city to the suburbs (as some do!) I’ll often get the panicked question – “do you come to the suburbs?!!?”  I assure them, yes! I do!! While I’m a city girl at heart, I love to get out of the city and explore the amazing parks that so many suburbs have to offer. So, if you are living in a suburb and have been wondering about a session – give us a call!

This is one such family who recently made the move and I loved checking out their new digs, seeing their new school and playing in a nearby park with them!

turning bad days to good

i don’t know too many people that can say that if they are having a lousy day it will be better once they go to work – but i sure can!!!!!

it always amazes me! not that i have a ton of bad days – i don’t (thankfully!) but you know how life is. . . we all have things going on .  .  . things on our mind . . . stress, anxiety, etc. but when i walk into a photo session everything just melts away.  anything that was bothering me is suddenly gone, completely forgotten and all i see are the beautiful faces in front of my lens. this little guy was such a joy to me on this day and was exactly what i needed.

we laughed. we ran around. we threw the ball. we cooed over his little sister.

he and his family were a complete delight. and when they left my day was a little brighter and my step was a little lighter.
